Log In To The Jewish World with Jspace
A new social networking site offers info on Jewish events, dating, and much more.
Last Sunday marked the launch of Jspace.com, an online social portal, with the tagline “Log In To The Jewish World”. The launch took place at the Jewish Federation of North America’s General Assembly in New York City.
The portal will provide worldwide information including everything from (but not limited to) hundreds of listings of synagogues, Jewish events, dating, and nightlife.
Market Watch says that members get a snapshot of “Jewish life around the world”.
Jspace will act as a social media website, which seems to have a very similar theme to other social networking sites. However, it is solely for the purpose of connecting members in the Jewish community. For instance, if you move to a new city and you’re looking to find out what’s hot (and maybe who), Jspace will be that source!
Also similar to other popular social networking hubs, the site will be free of charge, which is funny because under the dating section it says “We believe that love really shouldn’t cost a thing.” Now, that is my idea of multidisciplinary social networking. You can get up to the minute news, find events for the weekend, and even someone to go with.
I decided to venture and do some first hand research.
The template of the start page is practically identical to Facebook, but Jspace does not appear to be beating the drums for battle with other social media heavyweights. In fact, there is an option to sign up with your Facebook account to make the sign up process even easier!
In a statement from Market Watch, Gil Gibli (founder and CMO) says, “"We really believe it will change the way the Jewish community finds out about Jewish events, news and gets involved and connects with one another."
