Israeli Students Beautify Ugly Hacked Websites

Arab hacked Israeli pages get a makeover from advertising students

If you can't beat them, redesign them.

That's the message from HaBezefer, the Israeli school of advertising and art, and ad agency McCann Digital Israel, who came up with the brilliant and unconventional response to the constant cyber-attacks coming from Arab hackers.

"Israel is under constant cyber attacks each month, dozens of Israeli websites are being hacked by Arab hacker groups and replaced with anti-Israeli web pages." said McCann Digital art director Nir Refuah to Business Insider.

The "constant cyber attacks" mentioned by Refuah is an unrelenting wave of attacks aimed at Israeli businesses, where hackers takeover websites and replace the web pages with their own propaganda message, usually in the look of a 1990 website, bland, low-rest images on black background. Very uninspiring.

To help make these anti-Israel messages more beautiful, students took 50 hacked pages and redesigned the pages while keeping the content the same, sending the redesign templates back to various hacker group forums with the message, "We would like to end all cyber wars, but in the meantime -- if you must hack our sites, at least leave something beautiful."

Unfortunately, none of the students work has appeared on any hacked sites.

Let this be the beginning of a new hacking philosophy. Where design is as important as the message. It's like graffiti in the 80s. Time to make cyber wars beautiful.

Below are examples of the hacked pages and the redesigns:
