Natalie Portman and Fiance Join Gay Marriage Campaign
Freedom to Marry's "I Do" campaign urges President Obama to support gay marriage equality.
Millepied and PortmanPic: NULLAcademy Award winner Natalie Portman and her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, have joined Freedom to Marry’s “I Do” campaign, urging Barack Obama to support gay marriage.
“Natalie Portman and her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, are in love, and believe all loving couples should be able to share in the freedom to marry without discrimination. That is why they are joining the more than 100,000 people on Freedom to Marry’s Say, “I Do” Open Letter calling on President to do the right think and become part of America’s majority for marriage,” said Evan Wolfson, civil rights attorney and president of Freedom to Marry.
Launched in March, the “I Do” campaign is an open letter to the President calling on him to support gay marriage equality. To date, 107, 517 individuals have signed their names to the document.
Freedom to Marry is an organization dedicated to pursuing the freedom of marriage for same-sex couples across the width and breadth of America.
“Freedom to Marry’s goal is to end the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage once and for all. Drawing on the history of other social justice movements in the United States, we know that victory will ultimately come from persuading either Congress or the Supreme Court to end marriage discrimination. To achieve that victory, we must secure the freedom to marry in a critical mass of states and grow majority support across the country,” the organization states on its website.
