Diane von Furstenberg Gets into the Gap
The high-end designer is set to collaborate with everyone's favourite chain.
Formidable fashion empress Diane von Furstenberg, who bestowed the world with the bold-printed wrap dress, will now try her hand at children's wear. The fashion icon intends to collaborate with Gap Inc, creating a line of children’s apparel geared towards the 12 and under set. This will be von Furstenberg’s first foray into clothing for the wee ones.
The collection will be sold at Gap Kids and Baby Gap retailers in nearly 30 countries, including Canada, the United States and China, with online offerings in an additional 75 countries.
“I'm looking forward to offering our customers an exciting collection that applies her signature approach to print, optimistic colour and femininity,” said Art Peck, president of Gap North America.
Partnering with a fashion icon such as von Furstenberg is imperative for Gap, as the retailer has suffered a steady downward trajectory in sales for the past six years. However, Gap kids and Baby Gap have performed well comparatively.
Von Furstenberg follows a number of high-end designers who have collaborated with Gap, including Valentino and Stella McCartney. The latter’s kid's wear collection for Gap was so successful that she launched her own line of children’s apparel.
Apropos of the collaboration, von Furstenberg announced in a statement that she “was excited to work with the superstar retailer.”
Von Furstenberg’s collection for Gap should be available by March 2012.
