Elizabeth Taylor's Famed Jewels Are Going On Tour
Liz's jewels and other collectables will be touring the world this fall before an auction in December.
The late Elizabeth Taylor will always be remembered for her beauty and diamonds. This fall, the stars jewelry collection will be traveling the world (L.A, Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, and Hong Kong) to dazzle her fans and tell the story of Taylor’s wonderful, yet troubled life.
The world tour will end with a grand finale at the Rockefeller Center gallery in New York City in December, right before they go on sale December 13th-16th. It is expected that the exhibition will attract thousands of New Yorkers daily, and that perhaps the jewels will be snatched up right in time for Christmas and New Year’s.
Christie’s auction house hasn’t yet announced which piece will be available. We can only hope for some of her most famed pieces including the Peregrina pearl, once owned by Queen Mary I of England. Her twice husband, Richard Burton, gave Taylor two of her most prized possessions- the 69 karat Cartier Diamond and the 33-karat Krupp diamond ring. Speculators believe these pieces will be included in the exhibit.
In 2002, Taylor’s collection was appraised at $150 million.
“This collection of her many cherished possessions will bring us closer to the essence of Elizabeth Taylor's unique spirit, and promises to inspire admiration, delight, and at times, sheer wonder, in all who come to see it.” Marc Porter, the president of Christie's said in the press release.
The tour will also include Taylor’s fashion, accessories, decorative arts and memorabilia.
A portion of all proceeds from the tour and auction will be donated to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, founded by Taylor herself in 1993.
