Amy Winehouse’s Last Record Sets UK Sales Milestone
The deceased singer's "Back To Black" is the biggest selling record of the 21st century in Britain.
According to figures provided by the Official Charts Company (OCC), Back To Black has sold 3,259,100 copies thus far, surpassing James Blunt’s 2005 Back To Bedlam which has sold 3,241,118 copies.
Winehouse’s second, and last album jumped to the No. 1 spot on UK charts shortly after she was found dead in her north London home on July 23. On Tuesday, toxicology reports showed no illegal substances were found in her system.
"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death,” said a statement issued by the family.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was also revealed that legendary crooner Tony Bennett, will lead a tribute to Winehouse, at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles on Sunday. Said tribute will include footage of Bennett, 85, and Winehouse recording the song “Body and Soul” in March at Abbey Road Studios for his Duets II record.
"It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to the recording of 'Body And Soul', it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known," said Bennett.
"Our family is honoured that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute,” said Winehouse’s father, Mitch, in a statement.
