Dancap Announces Lineup of Shows for 2012
The new lineup features the world premiere of Prince of Broadway
Dancap is bringing a number of exciting shows to Toronto this year. And on top of that, the theatre company fronted by Aubrey Dan is spreading it’s reach to Montreal and Western Canada.
Green Day’s rock-infused musical American Idiot will kick start the year. Directed by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), the show features songs like “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and of course, “American Idiot.”
Next up is In the Heights, which runs from Feb. 7 to Feb. 19. The Tony Award-winning play takes place in Washington Heights, a New York City neighbourhood. Shrek The Musical -- which premiered on Broadway back in 2009 -- is also part of Dancap’s new lineup. The family friendly musical can be seen in Montreal from March 13-18 and in Toronto from March 20 to April 1.
The next Dancap show in Toronto is the classic musical West Side Story (which runs from May 8 to June 3). Disney fans will be happy to know that Beauty and the Beast is also part of Dancap’s shows for 2012. The musical will be staged in Toronto at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts during the summer.
One of the most buzzed-about shows is Prince of Broadway, which is about legendary theatre producer and director Hal Prince. The Broadway director and producer has been involved with countless plays, including Fiddler on the Roof, Evita and The Phantom of the Opera. Dancap will be presenting the world premiere of Prince of Broadway in Toronto, before the play heads to New York.
