Ben Stiller currently has five films on the go, and just decided to add a sixth to his plate.

Deadline has reported that Fox obtained the rights to ‘The Mountain’, a new film based upon characters in Edith Wharton’s ‘Summer’. Stiller is set to direct the movie, which isn’t necessarily an adaptation of the famous novel, but instead a continuation.

The original novel follows protagonist, Charity Royall, as she experiences her sexual awakening, which includes an unplanned pregnancy, marriage proposals from her guardian, and prostitution. ‘The Mountain’ will follow Charity as she delves into the secrets of her past.

Although the events Charity experiences in the novel are horrific, Wharton’s words would not be placed in the ‘horror’ genre. ‘The Mountain’ will not only completely change the story, but also change the tone.

‘Reality Bites’ writer, Helen Childress, is set to co-write with Stiller. The pair is also currently working on ‘The Snowy Day’ together.

Ben Stiller’s previous directorial efforts include Tropic Thunder, Zoolander, The Cable Guy, and Reality Bites.
