Director Sam Mendes confirms title rumours (but not much else) surrounding the newest instalment in the James Bond franchise.

At a launch event in London this morning, it was announced that next year’s film would indeed be titled “Skyfall,” the name that had been circulating for weeks prior.

The 23rd series offering stars third-time Bonder Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench as his boss M, and Javier Bardem in the role of an as-yet unidentified villian. The cast also includes British actors Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Whishaw, as well as new Bond girls Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe.

Mendes, whose directing credits include “American Beauty,” “Jarhead” and “Revolutionary Road,” was tight-lipped about some of the finer details of the film, but did divulge that “Skyfall” would be unconnected to the last two Bond flicks, “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace.” He also said he was “incredibly excited” to begin shooting.

“It has, I think, all the elements of a classic Bond movie including, to quell rumours, a lot of action and many other things too.

"This is an enormous challenge and one I'm extremely pleased I've taken thus far."

“Skyfall” will be released in North American theatres November 9th, 2012.
