After 17 years in front of the camera, Scarlett Johansson has decided to helm her first feature film. The 26-year-old has chosen an adaptation of Truman Capote’s lost novella, Summer Crossing.

Summer Crossing, was initially written in the 1940’s, but published in 2005 posthumously. Set in New York City over the stifling summer of 1945, the tragic coming-of-age novel follows an 18-year-old debutante who attempts to cast off the shackles of her moneyed, overbearing family by discovering her own identity and sexuality.

The screenplay was written by Tristine Skyler, and produced by Barry Spikings, who most notably won an Academy Award for The Deer Hunter. Likewise, Truman Capote Literary Trust trustee Alan Schwartz will collaborate with executive producer Peter D. Graves on the film.

ScarJo can next be seen in Cameron Crowe’s latest offering, We Bought a Zoo, alongside Matt Damon and Elle Fanning opening on December 23. She will also reprise her role of “Natasha Romanoff/The Black Widow” in next May’s The Avengers.
