Daniel Radcliffe of ‘Harry Potter’ fame has been cast to play beat poet, Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming feature ‘Kill Your Darlings’.

Radcliffe played the child magician for 8 consecutive movies. Most skeptics in Hollywood and the film industry world over feared that he would fall victim to typecasting and remain Harry Potter for the rest of his days. Luckily, the actor has made bright choices; starring in the horror flick ‘The Woman in Black’ and Broadway’s ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” and now taking on the challenging role of cult favourite, Ginsberg.

Radcliffe fans have been speculating what role the actor was undertaking after being quoted in the French press last week saying that he would be “playing a gay character.”

‘Kill Your Darlings’, directed by John Krokidas is a thriller based on true events, following the relationships between Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Lucien Carr. Although best known for murdering his lover in 1944, Carr was responsible for connecting Kerouac, Ginsberg, and William S. Burroughs.

The film’s development began in 2009, with an announcement that Jesse Eisenberg would take on Ginsberg. It is unknown why Radcliffe has replaced Eisenberg. At the same time, Chris Evans (Captain America) and Ben Whishaw (Bright Star) were slated to play Kerouac and Carr, respectively.

It will be interested to see Radcliffe in this role. James Franco recently portrayed Allen Ginsberg in the well-received ‘Howl’. Will Radcliffe play the character similarly or put his own twist on the legendary poet? It will definitely be interesting to hear Radcliffe’s American accent… assuming he even has one yet.
