Daniel Radcliffe named EW’s Entertainer of the Year
The Harry Potter star tops Entertainment Weekly’s annual list
Our favourite boy wizard is all grown up. 22-year-old actor Daniel Radcliffe graces the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s annual ‘Entertainers of the Year’ issue as the 2011 ‘Entertainer of the Year.’
The British actor completed his ten-year run as one of the generation’s most iconic figures with the Potter franchise’s final instalment this past summer. The film was the series’ most successful, grossing over $1 billion at the global box office in just two weeks. This year also marks his foray into live theatre with the role of window washer J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, for which Radcliffe received mainly positive reviews. Next up for the young actor is 2012’s supernatural thriller The Woman in Black, in which he will star as a lawyer who travels to a village terrorized by a maleficent ghost.
Earlier this year, Radcliffe told MTV 2011 has been “a great first year away from ‘Potter.’
“I’ve done some work I’m really proud of in that time,” he said. “The next two or three years are going to be pretty important, I think, and if [2011] is not a breakout year, it’s a breakaway year.”
Also on the ‘Entertainers of the Year’ list: British songstress Adele, Hugh Jackman, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and Viola Davis. The full listing can be found on newsstands December 9.
