Sean Penn vs. Maria Alonso (The Communist A-hole and The Pig)
Former co-stars gets in a public heated screaming match over his support for Hugo Chavez
The fight broke out after Alonso chose to confront Penn about his support for Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez. The Cuban-born actress moved to Venezuela with her family to escape the communist regime. Alonso claims Chavez is responsible for bringing a similar dictatorship to her beloved country.
During their chance encounter at the lost luggage claim counter, Alonso explains that she decided to approach Penn politely and said “I would like to talk to you.”
Penn allegedly responded with “I have nothing to say to you… You have been saying a lot of things about me in the press.”
Alonso retorted “No I don’t. I just say the truth. That you are a friend of Chavez and that he’s a good man. And that’s a lie. How can you say that?”
Last year, Alonso wrote an open letter to Penn accusing the actor of hypocrisy and of accepting Chavez’s human-rights violations.
“Being born in Cuba, a country where freedom of speech is nonexistent, it’s startling to observe how Venezuela, where I was happily raised, is fast becoming Cuba’s mirror image: Dismantling of fundamental democratic rights deserved by its people and citizens of the world,” the letter stated.
The conversation quickly got heated when Penn called Alonso a “pig” to which she quickly quipped “And you are a Communist, Sean Penn.”
Alonso appeared on 105.9FM WMAL in Washington on Monday to discuss the confrontation with Penn. Listen to the entire exchange below.
