New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg rang in 2012 with a smooch on the lips from Lady Gaga in Times Square, but during a press conference on Tuesday, he clarified that there was a more important kiss thereafter.

“I would be remiss if I didn’t also add to that, that the best kiss of the night came after that, from Diana,” Bloomberg said of the kiss he shared with longtime lady-friend Diana Taylor, who is the quondam state superintendent of banks.

However, Bloomberg did not hesitate to first laud Lady Gaga for her attributes.

“Lady Gaga is very charming. She’s a young lady who grew up and went to school here in New York City. She’s obviously a great entertainer. She’s stayed at the top in a business where that’s very difficult to do. So, obviously, she really does have some talent,” Bloomberg stated with a smile.

“I said something about, ‘Are you nervous?’ She said, ‘A little bit,’ And I said, ‘Well, why? You know, you have performed in front of big crowds all the time.’ She said, ‘Ah yeah, but this is my home,’” he explained of his conversation with the entertainer.

Lady Gaga helped Bloomberg push the button at 11:59 that commenced the iconic ball to drop in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
