Joseph Gordon-Levitt- best known for his roles in 3rd Rock From the Sun, 50/50, and Inception- has just announced his decision to drop out of Quentin Taratino’s next project, Django Unchained, in order to focus on directing.

"I've been in touch with Quentin about it, and it was so cool to trust me to do this little part in his movie," Gordon-Levitt told MTV News.

"I would have loved, loved to have done it. He's one of my very favorite filmmakers, and he was really supportive of me directing and that meant the world to me."

Gordon-Levitt is in the midst of filming his directorial debut, Don Jon’s Addiction, starring Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore.

If you’re a fan of Gordon-Levitt’s, you’ll still have the opportunity to see him in four other films this year; The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Looper, and Lincoln.

And you don’t have to worry about Tarantino missing Gordon-Levitt in Django Unchained. The film, following an ex-slave on a mission to free his wife, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kurt Russell.
