Chelsea Handler Joins Fight to Ban NYC Horse-Drawn Carriages
The comedian has written an open letter to NYC’s Mayor Mike Bloomberg
Lea Michele was the first celebrity to bring widespread attention to the issue of horses in NYC streets after a horse dropped dead on the street in October, appearing in a PETA ad and addressing NYC’s Mike Bloomberg in an open letter. Now, Chelsea Handler has jumped on board in hopes of phasing out the use of horse-drawn carriages.
Dear Mayor Michael Bloomberg: You're a man who has money and I'm a woman who loves money so I wanted to let you know that I'm donating $15,000 to a cause you don't believe in -- yet," Handler begins.
Handler supports NYCLASS (New Yorkers for Clean, Livable, and Safe Streets), encouraging Bloomberg to replace the horses with a vintage-style eco-friendly horseless carriage.
“an eco-friendly 21st century horseless carriage will promote tourism, save jobs and keep the horses out of harm’s way,” Handler continues.
Handler even goes as far as claiming she would build the carriage herself if she wasn’t so “wildly successful.”
“If I didn't have a wildly successful career in television and entertainment, I'd be chomping at the bit to work full time on getting this car built. But since I've got a talk show, I'll write a check and do my part that way."
There is currently a bill on hold in NYC City Council to replace the carriages with green retro-style carriages.
