Toronto’s Jewish community will join cities around the world to mark the annual Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah) on Wednesday, April 18th, with a commemorative ceremony at 7 pm at a new location inside Beth Tzedec Congregation, 1700 Bathurst Street (Bathurst St., south of Eglinton Ave).

Co-sponsored by UJA’s Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre and the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem with the support of many community organizations, this is the only city-wide commemoration in Toronto and the largest commemoration outside Israel. Over 2,000 people attended last year.

This year’s ceremony is themed as “My Brother’s Keeper” and will focus on Jewish solidarity during the Holocaust. Several Holocaust survivors will participate in the commemoration, which will include a candle-lighting ceremony. This year’s event will feature a special taped address by Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, the former Chief Rabbi of Israel.
