Borgore

Israeli-born Asaf Borger, known professionally as Borgore, is an international DJ and dubstep producer. Celebrated for his unique style- often incorporating found noises (horror movie screams, farm animals, and sex) and triplet drum patterns- Borgore has changed the face of dubstep in the 3 short years he’s been on the scene.

Borgore’s debut album, ‘Gorestep: Vol. 1’, came out in 2009. Since then, he has released another 10 albums and EP’s, remixed songs for everyone from Britney Spears and M.I.A to LMFAO and Gorillaz, and founded record label ‘Buygore Records’.

Borgore performed at Coachella last weekend, and is currently touring North America and Europe with upcoming dates in New York, London, Austin, and Reno.

Shalom Life chatted with Borgore after his Coachella set about ‘Gorestep’ and future remixes.

You have described your music as “Gorestep”. I understand that’s your clever way of saying you don’t fit into a specific genre, but can you try to explain exactly what ‘Gorestep’ is for people that haven’t heard your music?

Gorestep was relevant three years ago when Dubstep was more mellow and I played a different, hard sound. These days, the hard sound picked up so much that it isn't relevant anymore.

It is very unique for a DJ to be heavily influenced by heavy metal. What else do you think sets you apart?

The fact that I've studied music since I was a kid.

The beats in your songs have been compared to everything from haunting horror movies to farm animals. Do you intentionally incorporate unconventional sounds into your mixes?

Yes!

What’s the greatest compliment you’ve received about your music?

The greatest compliment is playing huge festivals and seeing all the people coming to see me.

You have done remixes for Britney Spears, M.I.A, LMFAO, Gorillaz, and many more notable musicians. Do you have a favorite? Who do you hope to remix in the future?

I don't hope to remix people. I hope to work together with people. I cannot say who I'm working with, but I feel that I'm achieving my dreams and goals as far as the people I'm working with.
