'The Flat' Wins TJFF’s David A. Stein Memorial Award

The Israeli documentary The Flat has been garnering buzz ever since it premiered at last month’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York. In addition to winning the award for Best Editing in a Documentary Feature at the prestigious festival, the film has been getting overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics.
So it makes sense that the Toronto Jewish Film Festival (which runs from May 3 to May 13) has awarded Arnon Goldfinger, the documentary’s director, with its David A. Stein Memorial Award. The documentary -- which will have its Canadian premiere on May 10 -- focuses on a mystery that unfolds when Goldfinger’s family explores the Tel Aviv apartment of his grandmother.
TJFF’s judges for this year included Jane Schoettle (a programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival), film critic Jason Anderson and consultant Sean Farnel. The David A. Stein Memorial Award was created in memory of Toronto filmmaker David A. Stein.
