The Material Girl is playing peace-maker after meeting with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists prior to today’s “concert for peace”, which the 54 year-old will give at Ramat Gan Stadium near Tel Aviv.

The concert, which has seen all 35,000 tickets sold, is the kick-off of the singer’s highly anticipated MDNA world tour that will take her to more than 80 countries in what will be her longest-ever road trip.

The Ramat Gan performance is the start of the pop star’s ninth world tour.

After her meeting with the peace activists, members of the Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum, Madonna handed them 600 tickets to the show.

Madonna, who has long been deeply involved in the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, last performed in Israel in 2009 during her "Sticky and Sweet" tour, when she met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and visited the Kotel in the Old City of Jerusalem.

“Music is so universal, and if there’s any chance that through my performance I can bring further attention and enlightenment to honor the peace efforts in the Middle East and help people come together, it would be an honor for me. It is my way of thanking those who are making so much effort toward bringing peace to the Middle East,” said the singer in a statement she made when announcing her latest tour.
