Micky Arison's Miami Heat Win 2012 NBA Championship
Israeli-American Arison wins first championship since 2004
The last couple of years have been financially strenuous, well as strenuous as can be for a man worth over $4 billion. In 2011 Arison had seen his net worth drop $1.3 billion, earning him the fifth spot on Forbes' "Biggest Losers" list.
Earlier this year, Arison, as the CEO of Carnival Cruise Line, further lost over $500 million when a Carnival subsidiary, Costa Crociere's cruise ship, The Costa Concordia, crashed in Italy killing 32 passengers. Carnival Cruise Lines saw it's shares drop by 20% in the days following the crash but has since bounced back.
Tonight, however, Arison gets to celebrate the vindication and validation for all the criticism him and the Heat staff have taken by putting together this Miami team, bringing on-board LeBron James and Chris Bosh, and creating the strongest, and most hated, trio in the league.
Coming into the series, the Heat were considered the underdogs against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but proved that their supporting cast, which many wrote off, were much more capable than expected. LeBron James was named MVP of the Finals after notching up his second triple double of the playoffs in the final game of a 4-1 series.
