Trailer for ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ With James Frano and Mila Kunis Debuts [VIDEO]
Director Sam Raimi reveals a teaser to the film at Comic-Con.
The film has been described as a prequel of sorts, with Raimi interpreting the fantastical world birthed from the mind of author Frank L. Baum, which the classic 1939 The Wizard of Oz was based upon.
“This is the story about who Oz was and how he came to be the real wizard. He’s a bit of a lothario, a cad, a little selfish. By the time he gets to Oz, it’s like a land of second chances,” Raimi told the packed audience at Comic-Con.
From the trailer footage alone, visual-effects abound – akin to the CGI dreamscapes created for Avatar (2009) or 2010’s Alice in Wonderland.
“We got so much great description from L. Frank Baum in his books, so we were inspired by that, but then it’s seen through the eyes of the brilliant production designer. We wanted to build a completely original world and 3-D was a great tool in developing this dimension more. We’re trying to present an original experience for the audience,” Raimi told the audience.
Oz: The Great and Powerful will open in theaters on March 8, 2013. Take a grander at the trailer below.
