When I first heard that Robocop was being remade, I had the exact same reaction I always get when realizing how limited the creative gene pool in Hollywood has become; does no one have any original ideas? Do you really need to remake a movie that’s only 25 years old? Is the team behind this actually interested in creating a good movie or are they just looking for money?

I still can’t answer those first two questions, but it seems the team behind Robocop is hoping to make a good film. The actors casted upon until this point are not only gifted, but choosy about their roles… well, except for Samuel L. Jackson (ahem… Snakes on a Plane).

In the latest casting news, ‘Goon’ star Jay Baruchel, best known for comedic roles in ‘Knocked Up’, ‘Tropic Thunder’, and ‘She’s Out of My League’ has joined ‘Robocop’ as “the head of marketing for the fictional company OmniCorp- the cutting-edge corporation responsible for advanced placements in technology that lead to the creation of Robocop.’

Baruchel will join Hugh Laurie, Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jackie Earle Haley, and Abbie Cornish for the remake set for an August 9th, 2013 release.
