‘American Horror Story’ Gets Insane Title Change
Ryan Murphy reveals the hit FX show's new title
The second season of FX’s wildly popular American Horror Story has been given a slight title change. Come October when the next installment airs, it will be titled American Horror Story: Asylum, co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed.
"When we launched the show last year, we kept quiet about the closed-ended nature of the show because we didn't want to tip off the audience that the characters were not going to survive. Now that it has been established that each year is a closed-ended story, the time seemed right to reveal what we're calling the new installment. We picked 'Asylum' because it not only describes the setting - an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange's character, which was formerly a tuberculosis ward - but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted. This year's theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors,” Murphy said in a press release.
Set in New England in 1964, Lange will return in the second season as a nun. She will be joined by first season stars Sarah Paulson,Lily Rabe, Evan Peters and Zachary Quinto, with a new crop of fresh characters played by Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, and Adam Levine, among others.
With intentions of tantalizing fans, and keeping them guessing, Murphy took to Twitter on Monday, with a cryptic tweet and photo.
"Two of our stars who started shooting today - - the multi-talented @adamlevine and Bloody Face!"
Apparently, principle photography for season two commenced on July 17th, with a premiere some time in October. American Horror Story: Asylum is executive produced by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto and Tim Minear.
The first season of American Horror Story earned the most Emmy nominations this year, tying with Mad Men for 17 awards.
