Newsweek: Two Tel Aviv Restaurants Among World’s top 101
Israeli eateries make magazine’s list
For a country as small as Israel, it should be considered a great success to see any of its local restaurants rank on a list of the top eateries in the world, let alone multiple mentions.
But two Tel Aviv-based eateries did just that, as Newsweek included them on its list of 101 favourite restaurants in the world, compiled by 53 internationally renowned chefs.
Israeli-born chef Yotam Ottolenghi, who has lived in London, England since 1997 and owns several restaurants, chose the two eateries from his homeland for the list; Abraxas North and Habasta.
Ottolenghi calls Habasta a “simple and utilitarian” market restaurant and recommends the pizza with white truffles.
“Being chosen by Newsweek fills us with pride and happiness,” Habasta owner Itay Hargil told Ynet. “It's thrilling that such a prominent publication recognizes our quality.”
Other entries on the list include a range of fast food eateries to gourmet hotspots around the world.
Tokyo's Sukiyabashi Jiro, Paris’ Le Chateaubriand and Guy Savoy and Spain's Mugaritz also made the list.
