Ditch Your Ugly Christmas Sweaters for New Designer Chanukah Knits
Geltfiend has launched a Kickstarter page to raise funds for their new line of Chanukah apparel
Everyone, Christian or not, is aware of the dreadful Christmas sweater. Usually adorned with 3-dimensional Frosty noses and Santa Claus hats, these garments are unfortunately a staple in many a holiday-lovers wardrobe.
Now it’s time for Jews to have celebratory knits as well… only they aren’t hideous!
Geltfiend launched a Kickstarter page to support their new line of fun Chanukah sweaters, with the announcement, “We’re taking back the holidays, one Chanukah sweater at a time! Whether you’re Jewish or not, everything is better in the sweater.”
With a goal of $20,000, Geltfiend hopes to have their hipster-chic sweaters available for this holiday season. Check out the designs at www.geltfiend.com. My favorite is the fantastic Hasidic Jew snowman family.
Carin Agiman, creator of ‘Geltfiend Chanukah Sweaters’ adds a personal and heartfelt plea to potential donors on the Kickstarter page.
“I'm the daughter of immigrants that really struggled with American holidays, never knowing to what degree us Jews were supposed to participate. That led to a lot of Jewish angst in my little kid brain. It also led to a few returned Valentines, a couple of Halloweens hiding in a back room of the house with the lights off, and a terrifying experience sitting on Santa's lap at the mall with my mom giving me dagger eyes from too-far-away-to-do-anything-about-it.
These days, being Jewish and being American seem very reconcilable, and Geltfiend is a celebration of that union between culture and national identity. We can have our gelt and eat it, too.
I am incredibly thankful to all the people in my life that have helped so far, and I'm also thankful to all of the people whose help and support is yet to come. I can't wait to celebrate this Chanukah knowing that Geltfiend has made those Chanukah candles burn juuuust a little brighter,” writes Agiman.
