The Avengers fans might be a little disappointed to discover that the upcoming sequel, The Avengers 2 will not be released for three years.

According to Deadline, Marvel has at least 4 superhero films in production, meaning The Avengers has to wait. Fortunately, three of those films feature The Avengers characters including Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013), Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: The Dark World (Nov. 8, 2013), and Chris Evans’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014).

Marvel Studios has not revealed whether they will make Black Widow or Hawkeye movies yet. If they choose to do so, The Avengers 2 might be pushed back even further.

The good news is that Joss Whedon has already signed on to write and direct the sequel, so although we have to wait what might feel like an eternity, it will be well worth it.
