EXCLUSIVE: Interview With NBC’s New Funny Lady, Ingrid Haas
The comedian and actress talks moving to Los Angeles, teaming up with Chelsea Handler, and her new NBC sit-com.
Ingrid Haas, Toronto native and Los Angeles transplant, began her foray into the arts world as a student at Claude Watson School of the Arts in Toronto, majoring in drama. She continued her theatrical studies at Ryerson University, graduating with a B.F.A in Theatre.
Immediately after graduation, Haas made a name for herself in Canada, working in theatre and television. But it wasn’t until the surprising success of her YouTube video, “Bride Has Massive Hair Wig Out”, that she starting making strides in the U.S, being featured on the likes of Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America.
After achieving viral notoriety, Haas found her way into comedy, alongside Chelsea P. Manders, forming the comedic musical duo, Charity & Chastity. The pair performed everywhere, gaining a loyal following and was eventually approached by Tricon Films & Television to create a pilot.
Before moving to Los Angeles, Haas was cast as Monique in her first feature film Scott Pilgrim Versus the World, co-starring Michael Cera. Since landing in LA, Haas has been writing and performing regularly.
Haas performs at the Upright Citizens Brigade with her comedy group The Get Go, and also wrote and performed her solo show there entitled Angrid. She hosts Hello Giggles’ live storytelling shows, was cast as a co-host in the Comedy Central pilot Overloaded with Michael Kosta, appeared in VH1’s Avatar’d, is the face of Four Loko, and starred with fellow comedian, James Davis, in a FunnyorDie campaign. If that isn’t enough to juggle, Haas (and Chelsea Handler’s Borderline Amazing Productions) recently sold a sit-com based on her life to NBC.
Ingrid Haas joined Shalom Life to discuss Los Angeles vs. Toronto, working with Chelsea Handler, and her love for theatre.
