Clinton Reiterates US Support for Israel
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton congratulates Israel on 62 years of Independence, reiterates US/Israeli bond.
In an Independence Day video message, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated the strong ties between the United States and Israel.
"Congratulations Israel on 62 years of independence. This is an opportunity to celebrate all that Israel has accomplished and to reaffirm the bonds that unite our two nations," Clinton said in her Sunday night video message. "In 1948, it took President Truman only 11 minutes to recognize your new nation, and ever since, the United States has stood with you in solidarity."
The Secretary of State said Independence Day is, “an opportunity to celebrate all that Israel has accomplished and to reaffirm the bonds that unite our two nations- our strategic partnership, our shared values and our common aspirations.”
“I have a deep personal commitment to Israel, and so does President Obama,” Clinton continued. “Our nation will not waver in protecting Israel’s security and promoting Israel’s future. That is why pursuing peace and recognized borders for Israel is one of our top priorities.”
“It is possible,” Clinton went on to say, “indeed necessary, to achieve a comprehensive peace in the Middle East that provides Israelis, Palestinians, and all people of the region, security, prosperity and the opportunity to live up to their full, G-d given potential. “ She added that Israel is confronting some of its greatest challenges to date but emphasized the great promise and potential of the Jewish State.
Clinton’s support message comes on the heels of criticism she recently unleashed towards Israeli policy. She has repeatedly called an end to recent settlement activity in Jerusalem and told Israel to do more to push for peace with the Palestinian Authority.
