Poland Backs Germany: Extradite Dubai Suspect

Prosecutors were acting in accordance with court procedures, and disregarding national politics, the Polish Press Agency reported.
The Israeli citizen, who used the name Uri Brodksy, was arrested in Poland this past weekend. He is suspected of obtaining a forged German passport used by a member of the group who killed Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel room in January.
A spokesman for the Polish court said on Monday that a ruling would be delivered within a month regarding whether the man will be extradited.
"The man sought by Germany was detained a week ago. He will be held for up to 40 days and during this time the court will have to rule whether to extradite him," said Wojciech Malek, a spokesman for the Warsaw district court.
Dubai has accused Israel of being behind the assassination, having provided the names of more than two dozen suspected members of a hit squad it claims killed the Hamas operative, using counterfeit German, French, Irish, British and Australian passports.
A spokesman for German’s justice ministry declined to elaborate on the matter, but said that according to EU policy, an extradition must take place within 40 days of an arrest.
