Israeli President Peres and Bob Dylan Have Something in Common
Men to be Honoured by US President Barrack Obama at White House Dinner
So, what do Israeli President Shimon Peres and singer Bob Dylan have in common? Other than the fact that they were both born Jewish, you’ll be excused if you don’t know the answer.
But, on June 13, President Peres, along with Dylan (formerly Robert Zimmerman), and, in a separate ceremony, Madeleine Albright, Toni Morrison and former senator and astronaut John Glenn, who were honoured last month by the president - will be honoured at a White House dinner thrown by U.S. President Barrack Obama, who will present the 89-year-old Israeli Statesman with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
Returning the honour, President Peres, in turn, will present President Obama with a rare collection of documents from the period of Israel’s inception, including a letter that was written from Chaim Weizmann to then-president Harry S. Truman.
The first lady, Michelle Obama, will receive an ornament created by disabled artists that marries turquoise stones from Eilat, with gold.
