Israel’s Lacrosse Team Takes on Slovakia
Who Knew? Israeli Lacrosse Celebrates Second Year
Believe it or not, Israel has a national lacrosse team and it’s about to make its debut in international play today in the European Lacrosse Championships, in a match set for Amsterdam in which the Israelis will take on Slovakia.
Thursday’s match is part of the tournament’s preliminary round during which Israel will battle Wales, Norway and France. The team will not play on Shabbat.
Israel’s two-year-old lacrosse program is the brainchild of a former New Yorker who made aliyah this year and who came up with the idea during his Birthright Israel trip.
A 27-year-old from Oceanside, N.Y., Scott Neiss had plenty of experience in the lacrosse world, including a stint as the Deputy commissioner of the North American Lacrosse League.
