Mitt Romney to Visit Israel this Summer
Middle East trip likely to take place after London olympics
Mitt RomneyThe odds-on favourite Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be saying “shalom” later this summer, as he visits Israel where he will meet with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.
While the trip has not yet been officially announced, it was reported by the New York Times, which cited an aide to the GOP nominee.
While the exact date of this latest trip to Israel has yet to be ironed out, it is thought to be likely added on to Romney's trip to the Summer Olympics in London later in July.
During this - Romney’s fourth visit to Israel - he will also sit down with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, as well as with U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro.
Romney met with PM Netanyahu and other officials last year during a three-day visit to the Jewish State as part of a week-long tour.
A close advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu has said that Romney is a "strong friend of Israel and we'll be happy to meet with him."
Romney has identified himself as more pro-Israel than current US President Barack Obama, describing the Jewish State as the United State’s "best ally" in the Middle East.
Earlier this year, Romney accuses Obama of throwing Israel “under the bus” during the Middle East peace process.
