Despite last week’s suicide bombing that killed six people – including five Israelis – and injured many more, Israel’s Minister of Tourism Stas Misezhnikov, along with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, announced this week that their two countries will strengthen strategic cooperation in tourism and security.

Minister Misezhnikov, who also blamed the attack on Iran and Hezbollah, arrived in Bulgaria as part of a delegation of senior representatives of the Israeli tourism industry. During a press conference, Misezhnikov stated that as an answer to the terrorism, the bond between Bulgaria and Israel should be made even closer.

Israeli and Bulgarian government officials will meet in Jerusalem this fall to discuss bilateral cooperation. In October, the Bulgarian President will arrive in Israel on a state visit.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 24th, Minister Misezhnikov held an official memorial ceremony at the site of the terror attack that included the laying of a wreath from the Government of Israel.

Bulgaria had recently become a popular travel destination for Israelis, with over 135,000 enjoying the country as a vacation spot.
