Remembering the Munich 11 at 30,000 Feet
EasyJet pilot holds minute of silence over Munich, Germany
According to a passenger on an EasyJet flight last Thursday from Luton, England to Tel Aviv, the plane’s pilot agreed to hold a moment of silence to commemorate the 11 members of the 1972 Israeli Olympic team killed by terrorists in Munich, as the plane flew over Germany.
The story, first reported on the Facebook page, USA Stands with Israel, claims the Israeli passengers on board personally requested the captain to oversee the commemoration as the passengers realized that the plane was directly over Munich.
The pilot agreed, and a minute of silence was observed at precisely 10:40 pm, Israeli time.
According to Israel National News, the unnamed passenger reported that "The pilot came on the intercom and informed the passengers that the crew will be observing a minute of silence as they fly over Munich and he invited the passengers to join them in remembering the Israeli sportsmen who were murdered there at the Olympic Games 40 years ago. "
The pilot is also reported to have asked his non-Israeli passengers to be respectful during the moment.
