German Olympic rower, Nadja Drygalla, has left Olympic Village after a 90-minute conversation with German officials regarding media allegations that her boyfriend is a far-right extremist.

Drygalla has already competed in the women’s rowing eight team, but has now quit on her own accord to prevent her team from being burdened by the media.

Michael Wesper, head of Germany’s committee released a statement saying “Miss Drygalla confirmed credibly her commitment to the Olympic Charter… She is leaving the Olympic Village so as not to be a burden for the team.”

An official reason for her departure was not provided, but ARD, a German public broadcaster, previously reported that Drygalla was suspected of sympathizing with neo-Nazi ideology.

According to the reports, Drygalla’s boyfriend was a member of the ‘Rostock National Socialists’.

The ‘Rostock National Socialists’ are a racist, anti-Semitic party inspired by the Nazi’s, as described by Germany’s intelligence agency.

The German rowing federation agrees with Drygalla’s decision.

"We will have another conversation with Nadja Drygalla in August after the Olympic Games. After that we will decide together with her how to proceed," said Siegfried Kaidel, the head of the federation.

"There is no issue for us regarding the rower. I have seen the report. But as far as the Games are concerned, she has not done anything wrong," said International Olympic Committee spokesman, Mark Adams.
