Israel’s quest for a medal at the Olympic games continues as Alex Shatilov places 6th in Men's Floor Exercises.

Shatilov, the 25-year-old gymnast scored 15.333 which tied him with USA's Jacob Dalton. China won gold, Japan won Silver and took Bronze.

Shatilov, born in Uzbekistan, started gymnastics training at 5-years-old and joined a boarding school for athletes when he turned 12. He immigrated with his family to Israel at the age of 15.

Shatilov started training in Israel upon arrival and by age 19 become a household name. In 2006, at the World Championships, he placed seventh in the men’s floor exercise, and in 2009 become the first Israeli to stand on the podium, winning bronze in the same event.

He followed those championships with nine more podium appearances, including two gold medals at world cup events.

Going into the London games, Shatilov was seen as one of Israel’s best chances of winning a medal.
